A Training Course and Youth Exchange for trainers, youth workers, peer leaders & young people. It was about developing the competencies of youth workers & young people in the areas of empowerment and resilience through the Outdoors.

The objectives of this training course & youth exchange:

  • For the participants to come away with concrete methods and ideas to help develop their own sense of empowerment & resilience whilst in the outdoors and bring this into the work they do with young people.
  • To understand and put into action ideas and methods to increase positive mental health in the young people they work with through outdoor activity.
  • To explore the potentials of the outdoors as a way for self-discovery, creativity, empowerment & resilience.
  • To be part of an intercultural learning experience.
  • To facilitate the exchange of experience from participants regarding their work with their own young people.
  • To encourage European co-operation in the youth field.

Methods used:

Non-formal interactive methods include workshops on:

  • Teambuilding in the Outdoors
  • Hiking – basic skills & reflective practice
  • Kayaking, Coasteering, etc – basic skills & reflective practice (tbc)
  • Music and nature – experiencing & understanding empathy
  • Vision Quest – a Native American ritual to connect to the inner you
  • Mindfulness & creativity based on MBSR (mindful-based stress reduction)
  • Vision Quest – a Native American ritual to connect to the inner you
  • Visits to local heritage & community projects
  • Discussion, sharing, exchange of experience, movement & reflection.
